What is your background? How did you get into Accountancy?
My first step into accountancy was actually a bit of a happy accident! When I was a teenager, I had a job as a receptionist, and the accounts team would sometimes ask if I could help them out with bits of their work. That was my first real taste of what accounting involved, and I found I really enjoyed it.
There’s something so satisfying about figuring things out and making sure everything makes sense, and that’s exactly what accountancy is all about—organising financial data to tell a clear story. From that point on, I knew I wanted to learn more, so I decided to pursue accountancy as a career.
What does your job as Client Manager involve?
My role as a Client Manager is all about staying organized, because deadlines in this field come thick and fast! Every day, I’m preparing accounts, corporation tax returns, and advising clients on how to handle their finances in the most compliant way. It’s a balance between the technical aspects—getting the numbers right—and helping clients make informed decisions that will support their business.
I also help train and support our team members, which is something I really enjoy. It’s rewarding to help others grow in their roles and feel more confident in their skills.
What does a typical working day look like for you?
Once I’ve had my morning caffeine fix, I go through my emails to get an overview of what’s on the agenda and to make sure my priorities for the day are in order. From there, it’s straight into client work—whether that’s having a chat with clients to discuss their financial needs, preparing their accounts, or making sure we meet those all-important deadlines.
Every day is different, but there’s always a steady rhythm of getting things done and making sure everything is in place for clients.
What sort of challenges do you or your clients face?
One of the biggest challenges we face is keeping up with constant changes in tax law. The Tax Act seems to evolve all the time, and it’s crucial to stay on top of those changes to make sure our clients remain compliant.
It can feel like a moving target sometimes, but that’s what makes my job as Client Manager interesting—there’s always something new to learn. Plus, clients often come to us with unique situations, and figuring out the best way forward for them can be tricky, but that’s part of the fun too!
What do you enjoy most about working at Blue Spire?
Without a doubt, it’s the people and the culture. Blue Spire isn’t your average accountancy firm. The whole office is filled with fun, helpful, and supportive people who genuinely enjoy what they do.
And it’s not all work—our staff socials are legendary! Let’s just say, some serious shapes are cut on the dance floor!
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I’m a big fan of strategy and survival games, both online and around the table. Civilization VI and RISK are two of my favorites—I love the challenge of thinking ahead and outsmarting my friends! It’s a great way to unwind and keep my mind sharp.
I’m also the Treasurer for a charity in my spare time, which keeps me busy but is also incredibly fulfilling. It’s a way for me to use my skills to give back, and I really enjoy being part of something that’s making a positive impact in the community.
