What does your job as Payroll Manager involve?
I run the payroll department and take care of managing and processing weekly, monthly, and annual payrolls as well as auto-enrolment pension scheme management.
What does a typical working day look like for you?
At the moment my time is split between the office and home, but my day always starts at 8.30 am with a LARGE Coffee at the ready – the first of many throughout the day! I start by checking through emails and dealing with anything urgent before I speak to the team about the priorities for the day and then get started on the payrolls.
I usually take lunch around 12.30 pm and whatever day of the week it is will decide if I am having a salad or Macdonalds! 😊 The afternoon always seems to fly by and is usually filled with more coffee and emails!
What sort of challenges do you or your clients face?
2020 was obviously a very challenging year with the introduction of the Coronavirus furlough scheme (CJRS) but as a team, we worked tirelessly to ensure deadlines were met and claims were processed efficiently, and I am really proud of how well we adapted to all the changes.
Our busiest period is towards the end of each month, as most of the payrolls we take care of are processed in the last two weeks, which currently is also the same time period that monthly CJRS claims need to be made, so this is where good time management is absolute key.
What do you enjoy most about working at Blue Spire?
The working environment! Although we are all professional and take our jobs very seriously, I enjoy that we are a fun office and everyone interacts with each other.
I am really looking forward to some office outings hopefully later in the year!
Lastly, are you binge watching or reading anything in lockdown you would recommend?
Line of Duty was brilliant. I really enjoyed it….even the final episode! 😊
